I was born in Beloit in 1976 and was raised by my
mother, a public school teacher. In July of 1994, a
few weeks after graduating from high school, I began
my service in the United States Army. I served as a
Quartermaster in the 1st Cavalry Division in Fort
Hood, Texas, and completed a fourteen month tour in
South Korea with the 2nd Infantry Division. I received
awards including an Army Achievement, Good Conduct,
and Overseas medal. In addition, I earned two 2nd
Infantry Division Coins from General Tommy Franks. I

Immediately after my discharge, I enrolled at Southern
Illinois University and studied Public Relations and Marketing.
While attending SIU, I served in the Illinois National Guard and
ran the Public Relations Student Society of America’s Public
Relations Firm. I earned my Bachelor’s of Science Degree in
December 2000.
After graduation I worked at Associated Research, a family owned
business in Lake Forest, for five years. I earned the position
of Sales Representative Manager, overseeing sales in the
domestic United States. I learned about business operations
across the country and how cities can facilitate business
development and job creation.
I bought my first home in Kenosha at the age of 26, and accepted
a position at Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, a non-profit
organization that offers solutions for financial security,
wellness and caring for others. As a financial associate, I work
with individuals and local businesses to assist in the
achievement of their financial goals, and I also help protect
families against financial risk. My caring interaction with
clients prompted me to run for State Senate.
Even though I enjoy my work, clients and friends, my favorite
time is spent at home with my wife, Annamarie, and son, “Little
Ben.”
